Relationship-based practice

Bexley S.H.I.E.L.D.’s overarching success measures for the partnership’s work are:

  • Restorative learning with families
  • Learning with practitioners
  • A kind and healing system.

Children and their families who have developed good relationships with the professionals working with them usually have good communication, a shared understanding of what the child’s life is like and are working together to improve outcomes for the child.

In collaboration with some parents, Bexley S.H.I.E.L.D. has produced a brief guide to help professionals think about how to build relationships with children and their families and how to approach assessments, at the early stages of work. The guide can be downloaded below:
