Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) - managing allegations of abuse made against somebody who works with children in Bexley

Meet the LADO and learn about allegations against adults who are in a position of trust

Bexley has a statutory duty to effectively manage allegations against people who work with children under Section 11 of the Children Act 2004.

Delegates will hear from Bexley’s Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) – Liston Williams, who is responsible for managing allegations against professionals and volunteers who are involved with children.

This 1 hour briefing session will support professionals to understand the role of the Local Authority Designated Officer, and the policies and procedures involved when an allegation has been made against an adult who is in contact with children while in a position of trust.

A LADO referral must be completed where there are concerns that a person who works with children has:

  • Behaved in a way that has harmed a child, or may have harmed a child; or
  • Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child; or
  • Behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates s/he is unsuitable to work with children; or
