S.H.I.E.L.D. together with London Borough of Bexley’s Professional Standards and Quality Assurance Team are holding a partnership wide event to hear best research, learn from practice and focus on responding to Neglect in Bexley.
Marian Brandon will be guest speaking. Marian is Emeritus Professor of Social Work at the University of East Anglia. Her research activity focuses on child protection, children’s views of child protection, fathers in child protection, family support and inter-agency working. She is the author of numerous national studies of SCRs and has done extensive work relating to Neglect.
The event will also include a look at the Bexley safeguarding procedures in response to Neglect such as the Neglect Strategy & Toolkit and there will be an opportunity for partner agency group discussions
- Research, best practice and case learning ( Marian will use her experience of carrying out national analyses of SCRs and other research to offer implications for practice with child neglect now)
- Group discussions and feedback
- Local Bexley context: (local resources and audit and survey feedback)
- Using the Neglect Toolkit

Spaces available: 60 (25 spaces available to Bexley’s Children Services and 35 spaces available to S.H.I.E.L.D. partner agencies.
